Exam success

On Tuesday 20th of August we had four club members who successfully passed their Intermediate exam, they were Alan, Ross, Geoff and Dexter.

Congratulations to them all.

To help with construction a Photograph of the Primary and Secondary connection.

If you are using a single connection box keep the primary at one end and the capacitor used in the Tank circuit at the other.

Keep the connecting wires as symmetrical as possible

Today Ross passed his Foundation exam after a short course. Ross completed the exam in about 40 minutes and scored 24 out of 26 questions. He already has a callsign in mind M7RAE. The test was invigilated by Peter G4OST and Paul M0ZMB.

Weather is not great for this event however the Mundy playing fields has a car park. The 5 watt Transmitter will be operating from 19.00 hrs this evening, 3.568mhz CW and can be received in Alveston at 599 so try your receivers on the way over and report the distances. The second transmitter will be <1 watt @ 3.579.3 Mhz cw and will be at the Mundy playing fields in Thornbury;decode the Identifiers for both signals and report your findings via qrz or the website or to John m0hfh.

Both transmitters send the club callsign initially G4ABC , with a short message for just over a minute which is repeated at approximately 30 second intervals.

The Fists CW club have some competitions (NOT CONTESTS)  organised for the bank holiday week and weekends 22nd to 27th of May.

If you have a vintage radio and would like to Chirp and Drift or warm it up for a few hours Rex and I will be around to help send or receive some slow morse.

How about some AM (amplitude Modulation) ! pre- arranged as its not a popular mode.
The 2m refresher looks interesting, 2 hours per day finishing at 9 pm, Rex and I will be operating from the ridge or Rex’s QTH with a beam for that event.

Folks its been a while but thought I’d post a hello from the’ valleys’.
Hope you are all well and I’m still enjoying keeping in touch on this web site. Planning a visit towards the end of March when Karen (XYL) is down judging in the South West. BTW mentioned to John (M3EQQ) that the club is very welcome to visit the QTH (IO72XG) in the summer for perhaps an ‘alternative field weekend’. Tents, motorhomes, barbeques, dogs all welcome. I have 9 acres of high ground (approx. 310m ASL) to offer, base, mobile, portable and plenty of walking for those that want it. However need to be strong antennas, well made and guyed – we can get strong winds up here. If you want to come I can mention to our local club ADARS and Mid-Wales RAYNET and perhaps we can do a joint venture – the guys will be up for that – we do a lot of SOTA as you might imagine. Anyway 73 for now and I’ll keep you posted once the Spring/Summer antenna farm starts going up. Mark MW0RZS
